The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) has been honoured with the Award for the Best Environmental Stamp at the 56th Asiago International Philatelic Art Awards, for its acclaimed “No Nukes” three-stamp series.
The award recognizes the series’ powerful support of the United Nations commitment to nuclear disarmament and highlights the role of philately in advancing global awareness of critical environmental and humanitarian issues.
According to an official announcement, the international jury selected the United Nations issued series for its significant contribution to promoting environmental responsibility and nuclear disarmament through stamp design.
The series was created by renowned illustrator, Sergio Baradat, a former staff member of Department of Operational Support (DOS) who retired in 2024.
Often referred to as the “Oscars of Philately”, the Asiago International Philatelic Art Prize is among the most prestigious and respected distinctions in the world of stamp design. Established in Italy over half a century ago, the award celebrates excellence in philatelic art and recognizes stamps that combine outstanding artistic achievement with meaningful social, cultural, and environmental themes.
This year’s recognition underscores the growing importance of environmental stewardship and peace advocacy in postal design. By combining striking visual communication with a compelling message, the “No Nukes” stamps series demonstrates how postal stamps can serve as powerful ambassadors for the values and priorities of the United Nations.
The award further highlights the ability of philately to educate, inspire, and foster dialogue on issues of global significance.
The award was formally presented during a ceremony in Asiago, Italy on 19 July, where recipients were invited to be honoured for their contributions to philatelic art and public awareness.
This international recognition reflects UNPA’s ongoing commitment to create stamp programmes that educate, inspire, and engage collectors and the public worldwide. The success of the “No Nukes” stamp series highlights the impact of thoughtful design in promoting the United Nations mission and advancing awareness of issues that affect communities around the globe.
